Our Director: John Wervers
John began his conducting career by devoting his summers as an assistant director at various military bases in Canada. He received his Queen’s Commission from the Canadian Armed Forces and was the recipient of Band Master training in British Columbia.
John was awarded an Honours Degree in Music from Brock University where he developed his talent as a choral director. He obtained his Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto and studied conducting with Dr. Roman Toi of the Royal Conservatory of Music.
John embarked on a study tour in Vienna, Austria, where he presented his seminar on Richard Strauss. He was one of two candidates selected from Canada to attend the International Orchestral conducting program at the University of Mozart (Mozarteum) in Salzburg, Austria, under the direction of Ferdinand Leitner.
John was later awarded a graduate studies scholarship and teaching assistant position at the University of Regina where he obtained his Master of Music Degree in conducting and conducted both the University of Regina Orchestra and the Regina Community Orchestra. He was a sessional lecturer for Lakehead University followed by an appointment as head of music at Base Borden Collegiate Institute.
John was employed by the Upper Grand District School Board for most of his teaching years as music educator and fine arts leader. John is currently working on his doctoral program in music .
As a highly successful music educator, leader, and conductor for over 42 years, John has established and directed a variety of choral and instrumental ensembles in churches, communities, and schools.
Some of John’s conducting appearances include: The Brock University Singers, The New Tecumseth Singers, Sault Symphony, Saugeen Bach Choir, Highland Chamber Singers, Kitchener Waterloo Chamber Orchestra, Thunder Bay Chamber Orchestra, The MIT Orchestra of Boston, The Orangeville Community Band, the Sound Investment Community Choir, Waterloo Players, and more…
Our Accompanist; Tanya Fenton:
Tanya graduated in 1996 from Canadian Bible College (Regina) with her Bachelor of Church Music. That summer, she also completed her Associate Performers Piano Exam with the Conservatory of Western Ontario.
Tanya has always been involved in singing and playing for choirs at the college level and as a volunteer.
She and her husband Joseph Fenton, pastor of Covenant Alliance Church, have been in the Orangeville area since 2011, where she stays active planning worship services, playing piano, and leading worship.
Tanya appreciates getting back to her classical roots through these rehearsals and concerts.
